Our History
Pesky Publishing Ltd is a relatively new publishing house having only been incorporated in the UK in 2023. For now we have a relatively small, but ever growing pool of books.
We were set up by our current Publishing Director William Fraser for two main reasons:
- Neurodivergence - William Fraser was identified as being profoundly dyslexic upon starting university. At this time the idea of being dyslexic meant the death to any writing career according to some. Let's not forget the long list of famous dyslexic authors in history. William knows from personal experience that writing as a neurodivergent person means there is extra polish needed to get something published. And that extra work can be enough for publishing houses to not pick up a starting out author.
- Start out authors - While at university, William watched a friend with a 7 part series get hit with rejection after rejection. Wanting to help William took on the task of literary agent (of sorts). But this just kept adding to non-responses and rejections. Finally, not wanting to see this talent wasted, William did the last thing he could. He built the name Bill's Books and published the books. This sole traded venture was semi-successful but had to be halted due to life events and a different career stream calling.
These two reasons lead to our two founding principles
- Look beyond the grammar and spelling to see the story!
- Don't ignore a manuscript because the name isn't famous!
A further pet peeve of our founder is the approach by large publishing houses that famous names must get published. There are a lot of books written by big names, such as actors, that are rubbish. And sometime more galling, there are books with big names as the authors that are actually written by talented ghost writers who never get the credit. This, trading on the name rather than quality, is one of the driving forces for Pesky Publishing Ltd.
